Media At Lakers FacilityHave you dreamed of working in the professional sports business? Love a fast-paced, deadline driven, rewarding work environment? Lakers Nation, along with sister sites Dodgers Nation and Raiders Tribune, are looking for hard-working, passion driven, intelligent students aspiring to break into the sports industry. We are offering internships for the winter in the following departments: writing, research, video/graphics, copy editing, social media and sales/marketing. We’re also looking for an intern to cover the Los Angeles D-League Team, the D-Fenders. Interns must receive college credit.

Interns will be working with Lakers Nation, Dodgers Nation and Raiders Tribune and will need to be able to work from our Downtown Los Angeles office.

  • Write breaking sports news stories
  • Story within the story writing
  • Gather research to support articles
  • Collaborate with fellow writers and team to cover events and news stories
  • Write engaging sports articles and opinion pieces, covering events, news features, games, reviews, biographies, etc.
  • Be able to write pre-game and post-game analysis


  • Extreme interest in sports and can write articles with flair
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must sound like an authority and an enthusiast on the topic
  • Also have the ability to work on-call/ at-home when needed and be resourceful

Do you love sports and numbers? Find yourself coming up with your own sports statistics during games?


  • Monitoring feeds from professional sports events, including but not limited to Lakers, Dodgers, Raiders
  • Creating play-by-play, entering score updates and box score information, verifying information
  • Create and evaluate advanced sports metrics and ensure integration of that content across all platforms
  • Be innovative and creative in coming up with your own stats that our followers would find informative
  • Responsible for keeping up with potential sports records that can be broken each game
  • Help update records and stats pages

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be passionate about sports and statistics; in fact, candidates should have a working knowledge of players, teams and the rules of the games.
  • Exemplary sports knowledge
  • Familiarity with data entry, PC/Mac operating systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication skills and an affinity for detail to strive for 100 percent accuracy
  • Night, weekend and holiday work may be required
  • College Student; must receive college credit


Passionate about sports and motivated to work in the sports industry? Looking to combine your knowledge of and interest in sports with your graphics and video editing skills?


  • Attend events as a production assistant and cameraman assistant
  • Create player of the game graphics
  • Video editing on non-linear editing systems (Final Cut, iMovie, Premiere, etc).
  • Decent understanding of Photoshop
  • Ability to tell a story through video
  • Assist with T-shirt graphics
  • We work in a fast paced, breaking news environment, responsible for editing footage in a timely manner


  • Well versed in sports knowledge
  • College student; must receive academic credit
  • Final Cut and/or Adobe Premier, and Photoshop knowledge
  • Adhere to deadlines

  • Editing copy, writing headlines, writing roundtables
  • Fact checking: Making sure names, titles, and years are accurate and spelt correctly. This position may involve checking to make sure that there are no factual inaccuracies in other aspects of the articles
  • Grammar and punctuation: Editing articles for general mechanical mistakes/errors
  • Writing style: Editing articles to make them follow journalistic writing style, especially in terms of using quotes, using tenses, dividing paragraphs, etc.
  • AP style and rules: Making sure articles adhere to the rules of the Associated Press Stylebook. This includes things such aspects as special rules for AP phrases, dates, numbers, titles, headlines, etc.

  • Sports knowledgeable

Love sports and consider yourself a social media expert? We’re looking for someone to monitor the sports social media world 24/7.


  • Check sports news daily and thoroughly comb the internet for the highest quality content for Lakers Nation/ Dodgers Nation/ Raiders Tribune and other social media ventures
  • Create daily/weekly/monthly reports for our social media platforms
  • Research digital PR targets (sports sites and blogs, and networking opportunities)
  • Check social features of the company website and insure everything is functioning properly
  • Capability to manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Pinterest, Google +, Tumbler, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed.
  • Monitor and deliver feedback to managers of other social channels
  • Ability to monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications. Report with trends and hashtags of the day


  • Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in communications, television, film, journalism, advertising, PR, marketing or social media
  • Interest/experience in media/new media, marketing, communications
  • Understanding of various social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.
  • Strong interest in writing and storytelling
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while communicating and presenting ideas with clarity and precision

The Los Angeles D-Fenders are an NBA D-League team owned by the Los Angeles Lakers. Ideally, this position is for someone looking to gain experience in the sports reporting field and build connections.


  • Write post-game recaps
  • Attend D-Fenders home games, interview players, write stories
  • Video coverage for the YouTube Channel
  • Social media updates
  • A firm grasp of AP style
  • Must be able to build relationships with coaches and athletes

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be passionate and knowledgeable about basketball; in fact, candidates should have a working knowledge of players, teams and the rules of the game
  • Word Press familiarity
  • AP knowledge
  • Strong communication skills and ability to network professionally
  • Strong writing skills
  • Basic on-camera and behind the camera knowledge
  • College student; must receive school credit
