Horrible Rumor of the Week: Lakers WERE Interested in Allen Iverson

By | February 12, 2012|

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, the same person that said Kobe Bryant was demanding a trade in the beginning of the season or that Dwight Howard will be a Laker before Christmas, is again using his born-again megaphone to let the world know that the Lakers were at one time, interested in Allen Iverson.

Allen Iverson, who sources indicated the Lakers had some interest in as long as he was willing to go to the NBA Developmental League for a few weeks first, is not the answer.

To be fair, Smith does say that Iverson is “simply not a point guard” and then goes on to use Jeremy Lin’s 38-point performance to point out how much the Lakers and Kobe Bryant need to do something to save this season.

Which actually contradicts Smith’s own article a few weeks ago where he argues that the Lakers should throw in the season to go after free agent-to-be, Kevin Garnett.

I’m not sure what the story is here – Smith trying to scoop his fellow ESPN writers or the Lakers exploring every option possible.
