There is no doubt that Bryant has provided immeasurable contributions for Los Angeles, and someday his number will hang in the rafters with Magic Johnson, Jerry West, and the rest of the Lakers legends, but his career is rapidly dwindling and he certainly has reached his peak. Bryant has faced multiple injuries over the past few years but has been able to play through those injuries without much difficulty. But as Bryant gets older and his body continues to rack up mileage, how much longer before these petty injuries start to cost him significant playing time? Now, this certainly does not mean that Bryant’s career is over and he has nothing else to offer, because that is absurd and idiotic. However, this is a one time chance that the Lakers will not have again after this upcoming offseason. LeBron James is going to sign a long term contract this summer, whether with Cleveland, New York, or one of a slew of other NBA teams, and is going to turn that team into an instant title contender. What better
way for the Lakers to guarantee their place as the team to beat for the next decade then to bring in the league’s youngest, and most impressive superstar?
Now to any dedicated Lakers fan, seeing Kobe Bryant in any uniform other than one of purple and gold seems blasphemous. But, if the Lakers were able to bring in LeBron James in Bryant’s place they would instantly become the undeniable favorites in the NBA. Right now, the Lakers are considered the leagues best with a few exceptions. That main exception is the Cleveland Cavaliers, and that is based purely on the skills of James. Without LeBron on the Cavs that team barely makes the playoffs, in the eastern conference no less. This should be enough of a reason to show just how impressive James is, and how valuable of an addition he could make to the Lakers. The NBA is entering the era of King James, and this is the Lakers only chance to build his castle in downtown Los Angeles.
