Nice analysis. Don't think any other team can pay Ariza. Even with his agent's threats, not likely that Ariza would take the same money to play for another team (1) that DID NOT win the championship last year, and (2) that he DID NOT grow up wishing he could play for. I think $6 Million is fine. Since he won't get any other great offers, he should sign a 1 year and test his market value next year. I love the guys game, but feel you'd get the same from Artest, with a little Danger thrown in! What about letting Ariza walk and either Odom or Turk at the SF or SG spot? Okay so long as bring back Shannon for the Defensive side. With our improved offense, we can let Kobe, Sasha, Jordan amd Shannon chase the PGs. Hmmmmm . . . Starting 5 of Kobe Shannon (Fish has got to step down, but that's another story) Odom Gasol and Bynum -- Long, Athletic, big guards like the old Ron Harper days.

Excellent piece, you really did your homework, here's hoping Dr. B and Mitch are so diligent. Having said that, the brilliant cash for draft pick moves the Lakers Brass made at the draft signal the organization is intent on signing ATHREEza AND LO and Shannon (my wish list.) My take on the contract $ are LO: 9 to 10 mil, TA: 6 to 7 mil and Shannon: 2 mil. I wouldn't be surprised if some 'knucklehead' teams make outrageous plays for TA and LO putting the Lake Show brass on the defensive. I hope these players remember'big bucks' usually don't translate to Championships, case in point Rony Turiaf. As Chick Hearn would say, "It's nervous time." Now we pray and wait.
