Torre: Dodgers interested in Pedro

Joe Torre reiterated that the Dodgers were keeping an eye Pedro Martinez. "I can't say we have no interest at all" Torre said, one day after Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti told The Times' Bill Plaschke that Martinez was "somebody we're curious about." "I share Ned's comment about the curiosity . . . especially with the ballclub trying to figure out who their fifth starter is," said Torre, who frequently faced Martinez when he managed the New York Yankees. "Does that mean we're on the threshold of signing him? No. I don't think there's been any contact that's been made."

Papelbon stands by Manny slams

Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon was not misquoted and he was not taken out of context. The hard-throwing right-hander had no interest in backing down Thursday from his strong words about former teammate Manny Ramirez that were printed in the April issue of Esquire. "I think that it's the truth and I'm not afraid to speak the truth about anything," Papelbon told The Associated Press. "I mean, everybody knows what happened. There's no secrets here. So I'm not coming up with some new big hidden secret that nobody knows about. This is something everybody's known about, and it is old news. But I know those comments just came out today from a magazine [interview] that I did in the first week of December. But there's no secrets here. The writing is on the wall." Papelbon then elaborated further. "Here's the thing, and it's pretty much simple to me and the writing's on the wall, because you have a guy who is on our team and we're losing games and then all of a sudden this guy leaves and they bring in a new guy and we start winning -- the day he left," Papelbon said. "So it's pretty obvious to me [and] to everybody else that was watching what was going on, and you could see it."

Meanwhile...

At Dodgers camp, Ramirez seemed unfazed by Papelbon's comments and declined to lash back at his former teammate. "That's fine,'' Ramirez said. "I've already moved on with my life. I wish everybody the best. I'm in L.A. now.

I wouldnta blamed Manny for Boston not getting through the LCS (...after an effortless pummeling of Los Angeles of Anaheim.)

What do you want Papeltard to say?
Manny was a great teammate.  He played hard everyday and never created distractions.

Since I'm not a retard, I would naturally say, "What's past is past. I feel good about this year. We're going to do the usual elimination of the Angels but this time go all the way. Good luck to Manny." up_gd.gif

Whatever happened to Billy Ashley? In all seriousness, I'm kind of wondering what the hell happened to him.

Name sounds familiar, but too lazy to look it up. He was a Dodger in the 70's right?
