Agreed Chito. But he would have kicked the crap out of Lars, and never gave in to all of his bullshit. Quitting the band wouldnt have been an option for him. He did have his own band pre-Metallica (Trauma), Lars was destined to be a tennis player like his dad, so if anyone should have left it woulda had to been him. Imaging Dave Lombardo woulda joined after leaving Slayer, that would have been epic.
Metallica was at their best as a young hungry band. Same goes for most of the bands that I have liked. A decade of good music is about all anyone can ask for from a band otherwise you get shit like The Stones have been giving their fans since the '80's. Money ruined Metallica like it does other bands. Greed and ego turned Lars into the douche that he is today.Metallica became greedy and pretty much "sold out" on their true fans. That is why I am a bigger Pantera/ Slayer fan than I am a Metallica fan even though Metallica at their best was probably better than either of those two bands. People probably don't want to hear this but Zeppelin was at the end when Bonham died. "In Through The Out Door" was a piece of crap and their best days were far behind them. I am sure things would have turned out different had Cliff lived but my guess is he would have left the band or been asked to leave. Don't think "Black" album would have haopened with Cliff. That was the beginning of the end for true Tallica fans. Dave tried to sell out with Megadeth but he just never got the same results.

Metal is all about the shred.
While we are talking about rock specifically in the thread, I did say shred, and changed the subject.  Nothing against the blues artists either, just a fan of the deeper, heavier tones. Cliff burton himself compared Kirk's playing to Michael Schenker, and Ritchie Blackmore, the main two factors of Metallica's inspiration. Cant deny that, while being factual.
Huge UFO/Schenker fan myself. Kirk was definitely influenced by these guys and a few others like Uli Jon Roth.Metallica was definitely influenced by NWOBHM as well as bands like King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. Kirk is a more than competent player who can hold his own in my opinion. He may or may not be gay. Don't really give a shit one way or another on that.

Yeah, The Metallica that I grewup loving was about kicking ass and taking no prisoners not about $$$$$$$$$. I saw them a lot in their early days and knew they were going to be big. I saw them open for Armored Saint at the Troubadour. I loved AS but Tallica destroyed them. They were true to the craft and did it better than anyone else around at that time. Were talking early eighties here. Def Leppard, Maiden, Priest, Scorps,Accept, Ozzy, Sabbath was what I was into at this point and Tallica could kick all their asses. I saw them atleast 4 times opening up for Ozzy in 1986 and Metallica flat out destroyed Ozzy. It was not even close. Scorpions and Priest were great live bands. Van Halen was garbage live. Leppard sucked with the release of Pyromania. Maiden was okay. I regret missing Metallica at L.A. Coliseum at Monsters of Rock in 1987. I heard they just destroyed and nobody had any energy left for the rest of the bands.

Are you on drugs? The Stones BEST album came in the 80's. Tattoo you and Some Girls are GREAT albums. I'm a Beatles, Who, Kinks guy, but if I were to take one stones album to a desert Island it would be "Some Girls." When was the last time ya listened to it? Smoke a bowl and listen...

Can you read? I said since the eighties? Most Stones fans would disagree with you on your pick and probably go with something like "Exile. I don't personally like The Stones much after Mick Taylor left and that faggot Ron Wood came on board. "Some Girls" is okay but lates with "Tatto You."

My older bro did something to me that I will forever hate him for. He went to watch the Metallica open for Ozzy show without telling me. Afterward, all he did was throw in my face the ticket stub (which btw I still have in my possession to this day). He said as Ozzy ran out to introduce himself, he fell flat on his ass on the stage.  :stretcher:  :lmao:

But yea, he did say that Metallica dominated the show.

Stones, totally overrated. Few decent songs, but not much good.
Whoppo, def Leapord just came out with a new one, as did Maiden, and ozzy has another too.

Metallica would have definitely been way different if Cliff had survived. He was the original brutal musician, what he said happened. Then right after his death when Metallica decided to "glam out" thats when they officially died.

Chito, I would hurt him man, no way would I let that happen lol

Trust me bro, I wanted to, but...he was much bigger and heavier than me and would've crushed me.  :stretcher: lol
It didn't stop me from cursing the hell out of him though. Still though, that scar of not being at that particular concert (where they were at their peak and had just released their Master of Puppets album) will follow me for life.  :(

Haha, and yeah man I bet. I havnt been near where they were playin, especially when I had some cash on hand, so in those cases it was just my fault. But I did miss out on Megadeth playin about an hour from my house before, and I had just totaled the car. Not fun.

I missed out on going to an Iron Maiden 'Somewhere In Time' tour concert for that very reason. I had friends relying on my ride as well, so I screwed everyone's plans up. Wasn't a good day to be me.

I agree on The Stones. A band that was at one time decent that has hung around 30 or so years too long. I have not given a shit about Def Leppard since their major sell-out with "Pyromania." I was into their first two albums with Petey Willis and Steve Clarke. Ozzy should call it a day. He is the heavy metal version of the Stones. I used to like Maiden a lot more than I do now. I just saw the original singer Di Anno about a month ago and he played most of the first two albums which was great to hear again.
I have not been that thrilled with Maiden since the first album that they did after reuniting with Bruce. I probably hung in there too long with Metallica since I was such a huge fan. Isaw the light with St. Anger and realized that the sell-out had actually begun with the "Black" ALBUM. I have been getting back to my metal roots by listening to smaller bands that never did sell out or become mainstream. That is why I still have love for Pantera and Slayer. They both became pretty big but never strayed away from made them so good.  These days I listen to Dream Theater, Mastadon, Shadows Fall, Opeth, Down to name a just a few of many.

Agree with this. I was never really a fan of Def Leppard at all. They're so-called metal was too soft and I only liked maybe 2 of their songs, that's all. The last Metallica Album I actually "liked" was the 'Justice' album. After that, I totally lost interest and wouldn't even listen to any of their new work. If it came up on the radio or something, I'd listen to it, but would end up disappointed. The Death Magnetic Album had a few good one's since they finally decided to try to get back to their hard-core days, but still, wasn't good enough to match that of their early years.
