Lakers Rumors: L.A. Unwilling to Trade Pau Gasol for Rajon Rondo

The Los Angeles Lakers may have defeated the Boston Celtics on the court on Sunday, but it seems that the team’s front offices have had conversations surrounding their players as well.

One of the most commonly discussed trades lately has involved Boston’s Rajon Rondo and the Lakers’ power forward Pau Gasol. According to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times, however, the Lakers were unwilling to give up Gasol in a deal for Rondo.

"The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday."

Bresnahan also reported that a source close to the situation declared the Lakers inability to acquire Rondo without giving up their prized 7-footer. However, that sentiment seems to go beyond just Boston and Rondo. Bresnahan’s source claims that the team will be unable to acquire an All-Star caliber point guard without losing Gasol, which is something they’ve been hesitant to do thus far.

I would be a willing trader Gasol for Darren Williams, but not for Rondo.  Although it does look tempting!  Rondo has a weak outside shot but is an excellent defender and an outstanding distributing PG.

Extremely temping however I’m not completely sold and apparently the Lakers aren’t either. Would trading Gasol for Rondo make us that much better? Not unless you are thereafter able to trade Bynum for Howard… trading Gasol for Rondo leaves us with a major hole at the PF and although Rondo would be a great fit at the PG, the LAL may be better off keeping their “Big 3” together and upgrading without doing away with one of them. Just ask Boston how tough it is to play against two 7-footers.

Sessions, DJ Agustin, Felton… speaking of which, Felton for Blake+Filler? Interesting a bench player for an instant starter, throw in Luke and it’s the next best thing since slice bread.

If I’m trading Gasol who is a legit All-Star caliber player capable of putting up a solid 18-20ppg+10rpg on any other team I expect a DWill in return or a package deal of Lowry and Scola. Even though Lowry is currently out due to a bacterial infection I would still make this deal. In my opinion there is no other trade, which would address the Lakers needs while making us legit contenders. I would also use the TE on an offensive threat to help ignite our bench.

GO LAKERS!!!!!!
