I bought Live 2009 when it first came out and then I bought 2k9. I prefered 2k9 so much more that I sold Live.

If you havn't bought any of these I recommend 2k9 because the gameplay is much better, the players look more like the actual players and theres a wider variety of dunks and moves etc.

Which do you prefer and why?

2k has been kicking live's @ss for years.  I had the original Lakers Vs Celtics and the NBA playoffs for the Genesis so I've been playing video basketball games for a long time.  Matter of fact, I had the basketball game on the Intellivision.  That was a great game even thought the graphics were limited.  There was no NBE license and you picked your team from a crazy pool of players like Fowler Brown, Stilt Chambers.  You get the idea.  

Live is usually for those who look for arcadey basketball play and aren't very knowledgeable about basketball.  They are more into the flash and scoring.  2k9 is truly awesome since they re-did the graphics engine.

I have nba live 09 and I like it but I dont play it much anymore but then again I have like 25 games or more and I usually just play Gears 1 and 2 and call of duty modern warfare and world at war oh and army of two. I love my shooters.

Definately get 2k9.  Better both online and offline.  Unless you want an arcady type basketball game then get live

its way more clean and organized than 2k9 and they always have problems and patches

i have both games
2k9 amazed me when i got if for xmas and well i play nba live way more becuz i love playing online and also cuz my brothers prefer it then 2k9
but its cuz we have been with live for ever since 02 with kidd on the cover(i think 02)
if you wanna buy a game thats addicting and just great overall buy 2k9
if you wanna buy a game thats good and fun to play and play online buy nba live

I dominate at NBA Live 09 so nobody wants to play against me. I used to play guys online but they pull jerk moves. they wait for you to pick a team then they pick an all star team or some team way better than your.

Whats so funny? Some people prefer arcadey its more fun. Sim is to robotic. NBA Jam was one of the best NBA games ever and it was all arcadey.
