I read this novel in 4th grade and it was a masterpiece.  I saw this mini series later and it was a total waste of money.  I only hope that if it is going to be anything similar to what the series was that they just donate all the money to a cause and take the write-off.  Stephen King books don't seem to translate very well at ALL on the big screen.  Wellllllll..... with some exceptions, imo, The Running Man, and Carrie are the only ones I can think of right now, Stand By Me too but I believe that was only a screenplay (I think) which I never read, but it was still a great movie.  The Shining was okay but it veered off from the book way too much.

i totally agree about "It". i didn't read it until 7th grade (wow fourth grade, G!? thats heavy) it is a brilliant novel. rated R could only do it justice. the novel is like a thousand pages and awesome.

Stand by Me was a short story originally titled The Body.

Stephen King movies rely heavily on the people behind it. Movies like The Shining, Shawshank, The Green Mile, Misery, and others were successful adaptations because of the creative people behind the scenes that made it happen. Also not every King story is made to be on film.

And King doesn't sweat the process. He allows directors and others to make their vision of his work without much or any interference from him.

Yeahhhh I didn't have as much supervision growing up as I should have....

Nice synopsis, OG.  I agree.  And I totally forgot to add MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE to the list of mewwwvies I like.  I read the short story but it was soooo long ago that I hardly remember.  I think I remember thinking the movie took much liberty with it though.  Still a kickass flick.  Ohhhh Emilio, what ever happened to you???

you are correct

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (1982) is a novella by Stephen King, originally published in Different Seasons. The novella was adapted for the screen in the film The Shawshank Redemption.

I 'misremembered' Misery.
That's another all-timer. up_gd.gif
