Tennessee's Lane Kiffin has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Southern California, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Chris Low on Tuesday.

Kiffin would replace Pete Carroll, who jumped to the NFL as coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Kiffin, the former Oakland Raiders coach, led the Volunteers for only one season.

Sources told ESPN Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, and assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him, and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown will be named interim head coach at Tennessee.

Kiffin has been on the move of late. He was 7-5 in his one season at Tennessee and 5-15 in one-plus seasons with the Raiders before being fired in September 2008.....ESPN.com

It's Petey's old assistants + M. Kiffin. Pretty shocking. Proves Lane Kiffin is a douche with no loyalties. But I think it'll work out. Monte Kiffin is a great D-coordinator, and Ogeron is a great recruiter. They've said that Ogeron is already on Campus contacting recruits. Honestly, I think this is the best they could do. The only thing that could make L. Kiffing douche up and leave USC would probably be the NFL. Don't think that'll be happening anytime soon.

Kiffin was not going to hack it the SEC so great move for him. I don't know if hiring a coach with 7 NCAA violations in his first year of coaching was the right move for USC. Why were they turned down by so many coaches? Probably because those in the know suspect that NCAA penalties may be on the way would be my guess.

Why would Chow want to leave to work for the guy who replaced him as offensive coordinator?

Did senile old Al Davis actually know what he was doing when he fired this punk?

As a Gator, I want Tennessee to exist in a state of chaos. I love UT fans screaming at Lane Kiffin as he leaves, "You're scared of Urban Meyer, you punk!" I enjoy seeing Urban and Shelley looking at their Blackberries during the basketball game and laughing. And it makes me very happy to think that the 2010 SEC East race is between Florida and Georgia with four below average teams behind us.

As a college football fan, especially the SEC, Lane Kiffin is scum. Coaches changing posts is dirty but acceptable. What Kiffin is doing, leaving in the middle of the night and taking Daddy and his big bully, is the lowest of low. Three weeks out of National Signing Day is terrible. Screwing a school and community that embraced and trusted you, despite breaking an NCAA rule each week, is awful. I don't blame UT fans for chasing him down with pitchforks and torches.

Coaches leave schools every day, but it seems like this is especially insane. If Kiffin can go back to USC after one season, his heart was never really in Knoxville. That might be the only good thing for UT, in that Kiffin left after one season and no legacy, rather than after 2 or 3 years. But here's hoping the Vols hire that young, dynamic coach with SEC experience; Ron Zook.

It is unconfirmed as of this moment but that may change. UCLA SID says that it is untrue. Chow has not shown me two much in his 2 years at UCLA and while I respect the fact that he has a great resume as an OC if he leaves so be it. Nieuheisal has a great mind for offense and could do the job if need be. Bruins need better players on offense either way.

Vols are phucked no doubt about it. Should have never trusted a snake to coach their team. Atleast Al Davis was right about something. Ron Zook sucks as a coach.
He can recruit some talent but he cannot win with it. He did a crappy job at Florida and now is repeating that with Illinois.

this according to scott wolf of inside USC..

So Monte Kiffin, Ed Orgeron and Norm Chow will join Lane Kiffin at USC. I spoke to Chow on Tuesday before the announcement and he confirmed USC approached him to become offensive coordinator.

But did he accept? Whatever, I can live without Chow if he leaves. In my mind Kiffin will crap things up as the head guy just llike he did with Vols.

that's what i was thinking when reading it.  did he accept?  but his first sentence says chow is joining kiffen so it looks to me like he's leaving.

Knoxville reportedly is anarchy: students rioting, burning stuff, marching on athletic building. Cops called.

they are pissed at kiffen...  i don't blame them.

Chow has said that it would take NFL type money for him to return to USC. Well they have enough money to pay so it is definitely possible.
