One month until the start of the regular season, here's a list of the top remaining free agents...

Odalis Perez, SP.  Perez is projected for a 4.44 ERA in 117 innings pitched.  He beat that innings total in each of the last two seasons.  One negative event not seen in the numbers was Perez's spring holdout after he became unhappy with his $850K minor league deal with Washington.  It seems that he'll take a similar amount but wants a guaranteed deal.  Perez said he has nine or ten interested teams.

Pedro Martinez, SP.  Martinez and Perez are in a similar boat, auditioning in the WBC and hoping for guaranteed contracts.  Pedro is projected for a 4.31 ERA in 110 innings and has reportedly looked good this spring.  We haven't heard much on him lately, aside from the Cardinals mulling him as a closer option.
Jim Edmonds, OF.  Edmonds drops a few spots on the list given uncertainty over whether he wants to play in 2009.  His center field glove is a minus, partially because he plays too shallow.  But a projected batting line of .265/.363/.491 is nothing to sneeze at.

Ivan Rodriguez, C.  PECOTA has Pudge at .263/.301/.364 in '09, but simply the act of catching capably gives him value.

Ray Durham, 2B.   Durham is projected for a .272/.360/.413 line, though he won't help much defensively.  He turned down a minor league offer from the Nationals.

Mark Grudzielanek, 2B.  PECOTA does not like Grudzielanek, but perhaps he can beat their projected .320 OBP.  Some have speculated he could help the Yankees.

Ben Sheets, SP.  Sheets is unlikely to sign until after the June draft, since he's a Type A free agent. 50 innings of his projected 3.77 ERA would give a small boost, so he'll be a hot commodity if rehab from a torn flexor tendon in his elbow goes well.

Paul Byrd, SP.  Byrd is projected at a 5.06 ERA, but maybe the extra half-season of rest will allow him to beat that.  He'd like to join a contending team at midseason, perhaps the Braves, Rays, or Marlins if the need exists.
Will Ohman, RP.  Ohman's the best available lefty, but he's not drawing the interest from contenders he craves.  He probably hopes to at least match Dennys Reyes' two-year, $3MM deal.

Joe Beimel, RP.  PECOTA sees Beimel slipping to a 4.09 ERA in 48 innings.  He's in the same boat as Ohman.

I'll keep the trash in the scum bag thread where it belongs.

PECOTA, an acronym for Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm, is a sabermetric system for forecasting Major League Baseball player performance.

Another Yankee douch bag won't have a plaque in Monument Park, despite his lore there.

Stabbing your ass full of PED's at Junkee Stadium is blasphemous...it's like smoking a joint inside Dodger Stadium. I only did it once. I was young.

Joe Beimel is close to choosing either San Diego or Oakland. Both very friendly pitcher parks. I thought Beimel did a pretty good job last year. I'm surprised there weren't more offers.

The Nationals got Beimel for one year.

ARoid should get suspended.

One time I went to Dodger stadium with a guy I hadnt hung out with in a long time. he said he had tickets. the jerk had top deck tickets then we get there and he lights up a roach. I know what you mean Paul. It felt wrong. if youre going to smoke have the decensy to do it in the parking lot.

Well it all started at the San Francisco Saloon on Pico after work. Me and my buddy had tickets and it was raining in August. W had about 4-5 Heffewiesens a piece. We finally got to the stadium about 9 o 'clock and people were leaving. We drank more watered down beers and there was about 1 1/2 delay and so we decided to go up to the Stadium Club and get a few vodkas. On the way up the escalator by friend lights up 'cause theres no one else around. He handed it to me and I was like "puff puff...you crazy mf-er...puff ...pass" the game was cancelled at the end. ... I think.

According to ESPN, Curt Schilling is retiring. happy0064.gif

Even though I think he is a true douche. Looking at his numbers, he may just have enough to get in the hall. Plus the fact that he won rings with the Red Sox, the East Coast writers would duck his sick for that alone. I hope he does not get in.

BTW I don't like the addition of Steve Philips with John Miller and Joe Morgan. Morgan's painful enough to listen to...ala Tim McCarver.

I like Steve Phillips and Joe Morgan I cant stand how John Miller kisses Morgans a$$ all the time. Does he have to mention that Joe Mrgan is a hall of famer every 2 minutes? I remember John Miller being interviewed about barry Bonds and he said that there is no evidence that Barry ever did steriods he didnt believe it. He lost all credibility that day.

If the pairing of those three is premanent, then Phillips will take air time away from Morgan which is a good thing. It's amazing how much Morgan seems to talk about himself during games.
