D-Fenders News: Malcolm Thomas Earns Call-Up, Signs With Spurs

Austin Toros vs. Los Angeles D-Fenders - NBA Development League Finals - Game 2Malcolm Thomas has been absolutely dominant in two appearances for the D-Fenders so far this season, posting averages of 33.5 points and 15.5 rebounds. He was rewarded today by becoming the D-Fenders’ first GATORADE call-up of the season, and fifth overall, signing a contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

This is the fifth time Thomas has been called up in his D-Fenders career and his second time being called up by the Spurs. He previously spent time with the team during the 2011-12 season. Last year he spent time with both the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls.

The D-Fenders will now have to completely re-adjust their team as the loss of Thomas, combined with the Lakers recall of Ryan Kelly, strips the team of its two top scorers.
