Chinese Vice President Expected at Lakers Game Friday

By | February 17, 2012|

Chinese Vice President, Xi Jinping is making a trip to Los Angeles and is expected to be in attendance for the Lakers’ game on Friday night versus the Phoenix Suns.

Kate Linthicum of the Los Angeles Times writes that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Governor Jerry Brown first meet Xi in L.A. and the mayor later invited him to a Lakers game.

“He’s a Kobe fan,” said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The Lakers are used to seeing celebrity sitting court-side at games, but rarely do diplomats from foreign countries attend games.

Actors and actresses are quite often associated with Staples Center, but in tonight’s game, the arena will host a very powerful man. While often times sports are looked at as nothing more than games and entertainment, it is always fun to get a little perspective when a man who truly has a global impact attends a game.
