BREAKING: Nick Young Agrees To Re-Sign With The Lakers

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

The Los Angeles Lakers have started to make moves in free agency with Nick Young being the latest player to sign with the team, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman:

Young opted out of his deal with the Lakers heading into free agency and expressed a desire to stay with the team long-term. Although it was uncertain if the Lakers truly wanted one of the league’s best sixth men back for a higher price, the veteran guard/forward stayed confident things would get worked out.

As a result, the Lakers have re-signed Young to a four-year deal worth $21.5 million, according to David Aldridge of NBA.com:

Young was arguably the team’s best player last year outside of Pau Gasol. The journeyman came in and shouldered the scoring load for an injured Kobe Bryant by averaging a team-high 17.9 points per game.

      Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA

“Chris Bosh is finalizing an agreement to return to Miami on a five-year, $118M deal, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.”

      Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanESPN

Jeremy Lin traded to the Lakers along with a first rounder

Good job Kupcake, improved the 1 for next season while saving cap for 2015 and acquiring a future first rounder from the Rockettes. Don’t hate the Rockettes but good to finally screw a team over.

IMO, Young will be trade bait down the road but lets observe what he manages to do with a solid rotation and him likely coming off the bench. At least FO isn’t waiting for Melo to decide what he wants to do given he’ll likely be left by himself if he decides to go to the Bulls or Knicks.

      • Mister Cool

Thank god because Houston would beast us with Bosh. Also Pat Riley salvaged a horrible situation and news is Wade is returning to Miami of course. They are still a playoffs team for sure.

        • Jim213

The losers there are the Heat (LJ) and the Rockettes.

          • Mister Cool

Alright i agree with that.Lakers are losers also.We could have done much better IMO but too much pondering cost the LAL FO big time imho.

          • Jim213

Disagree, the FAs who’ve agreed to go elsewhere at the start of FA left or returned to their teams for the salary (can’t blame them). However, if FO decides to wait longer to sign other viable key pieces like ex. Bazemore and other reliable role players now rather than a week from now then I’d agree.

          • Mister Cool

Well i am not saying the FO is terrible it’s just a matter of timing like say if they focused on Lance Stephenson and others we could have started wheeling and dealing much earlier instead of pipe dreaming. But it’s not good or bad same as last season basically.

          • Jim213

I wouldn’t go for Lance and try offering D Wade a $10 mil deal tho would likely return to the Heat. But if Hill got paid what does this say about P Gasol? He’d likely be going elsewhere as I’d sign Omeka Okafor to a one year $5-6 mil deal for the 5 being he’s coming back from an injury while missing out this past season..

          • Mister Cool

WojYahooNBA: Free agent forward Jordan Hill has agreed to a two-year, $18M deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, agent Kevin Bradbury tells Yahoo.

          • Jim213

Damn, too much salary but just another asset to be considered in a wheel and deal down the road. I’d have gone $6-8 mil.

          • Mister Cool

$9,000,000 for Jordan Hill is overpaying and i am his biggest fan, that should tell you all you need to know.

          • Jim213

Can possibly be traded down the road but hopefully he proves us all wrong and goes for career highs next season. ‘do what you do’ Hill.

          • jim2

What about a guy who played 6 games last year and likely won’t play much this year and is getting $24M/yr?

          • Chrmngblly

            Who is that?

          • comrade24

Blah blah blah. Sick of hearing about it. What’s done is done. Move the fuck on already

          • antonio cruz

what? are you saying this chet salary for kobe is fuking killing us he aint worth not even $17M/Y and yes we are going to keep fuking with your love till the FO stops commiten mistakes like this fuking ass wiping salary, sorry for remembering that your love(Kobe) aint the chet any fuking moreeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

          • comrade24

i’m not saying the contract wasn’t a mistake. obviously it was basketball wise, but you’re just beating a dead horse. This has been talked and talked and talked and talked about since it was signed. It’s done. Let’s move on. This article isn’t about Kobe, it’s about Nick Young. Comment on that. Quit living the past and accept reality. We’re in a rebuild, we’re not going to contend for a championship until at least 2016 when Kobe comes off the books. That’s reality. Deal with it. Bitching and complaining about it doesn’t do any good. No one disagrees with you. It just gets old hearing it constantly

          • Sagar

no ..not over prices..his contract has 2nd year team option..if lakers want to chase aldridge or love next year..they can throw hill…

          • guadalupemshoe

Josiah . although Jacqueline `s stori is surprising,
last week I bought themselves a Chrysler from having made $5060 thiss month
            and-in excess of, 10/k last-month . it’s realy the easiest-work I have ever done
. I started this 4 months ago and pretty much straight away was bringin in at
            least $78 per-hour . why not look here Cashfig.COM

    • Joseph

Lakers must sign Devin Ebanks. The Lakers FO was very high on him and they love him and treated him with respect the DUI cost him his job but now he is more mature and eager and willing to work hard please forgive and forget we need Devin Ebanks. The old roster had too many veterans that stunted his development now he is older and more mature also he fits this roster much better he is tailor made for a young roster. He will help out the defense and also fill up the lanes on fast breaks. This is a must now.

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Can’t complain with the contract… i think it is just right… now we just need a solid SF like Deng or Ariza, or perhaps LAnce… and we are set… then bring in fillers. oh, and a coach… i would go for Mark Jackson or JVG…

  • cmilli21

    I’m happy

  • Noob Saibot

    ohmySwaggy P

  • Mikael Wihlborg

    NICE!

  • meep

im excited we get to keep our sixth man. now who going to start bazemore? ariza deng?

  • LakerSpartan117

This is good… we got our 6th man for 4 more years. Now that we have Swaggy who can take the pressure off Kobe when it comes to rest and bench play, we can focus on sign-and-trading Pau to whoever wants him and acquire more assets.

    • meep

i would trade him to the knicks to get a guy like tim hardaway

      • OG RiceBone

does barg’s contract end next year too?

        • LakerSpartan117

          Yes

      • LakerSpartan117

Try to acquire Hardaway, Barganni, and their 1st!

        • Josh

for sign and trading Pau?? That’s just not realistic… unless we take on bargani’s salary which is too much.. I think ny i skeeping hardaway

          • LakerSpartan117

Bargani’s contract is expiring and more than Amare’s which saves us more money.

  • OG RiceBone

Yes, I was waiting for this. SwaggyP Leh go!

  • DKWTTY

    Yes! A true Laker.

  • dorian jones

nice job getting him back but I feel like they overpayed a little

    • meep

ill take 5 mill instead of paying 15 for parson

    • Tune

5mil is overpaying for Swaggy P? Have you seen the contracts out there?

    • DKWTTY

Not with all these deals other players having been getting.

  • lakerfan

In Other news Bosh not going to houston lmaooo

    • LakerSpartan117

HAHA!! Just heard! Looks like Houston helped us more than we helped them!!

  • Lakers4Life

Good move Lakers. Let’s not forgot championships are based on a team, not individual starpower.

  • Travis Stoffs

    Now get Ariza.

    • AK

i rather get stephenson and move kobe to the 3

      • cyborgspider

This. If it happens I’m happy with the Lakers offseason.

      • BULL

that would be cool.. Stephenson could play the two but stick the 3 ..

  • Kb24

    LIN
    BRYANT
    ARIZA
    RANDLE
    GASOL

    • meep

or trade gasol for 2 peices and sign hill and let him and sacre man center

    • BULL

I LIKE IT .. LIN IS A GOOD PICK AND ROLL PG AND 6 3

  • AK

good to see the lakers making moves finally they need to go heavy for monroe

    • Chrmngblly

NOOOOO. Monroe is average with no defense.

      • AK

he is a top 3 big man in this league you gotta be out your mind he is a beast on d too the pistons just had a bad team defense .

        • Chrmngblly

          Bullshit.

  • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

A back court of Lin and Nick Young could be very exciting. Can’t wait to see it.
    Lakers for life.

    • BULL

not if we get Ariza or Deng .. then young needs to come off bench.. hes a good bench player ..6 man

      • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

Yeah I know he wont start. The back court is still going to be exciting!

    • Orlando Foolridge

For 5 Million a Year, Nick needs to start. He’s no longer a minimum salary gunslinger….dude needs to step up go 17-20 every game and play D. Between Lin Kobe and Swaggy Randall might lead the league in either Blocked Shots or Fouls…or both, no perimeter D on this team at all.

      • meep

no young needs to come off the bench. that what made him earn this contract. he has the mind set of a 6th man. dont ruin what made him good

        • cyborgspider

It works for Jordan Crawford and the Clips!

      • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

He needs to come off the bench. Kobe can start, but Nick Young can take some load off of Kobe. Every team needs that spark off the bench.
Also, Nick Young kind of stepped it up on the defensive end last year. He has shown some signs of effort.

      • DKWTTY

A lot of 6th men play for about $5 and $6 million. He’s best off the bench.

    • DKWTTY

Nick is a joker and so is Lin. They NEED to do a Rush Hour type parody.

  • NYLakerJ

Cap space is disappearing big time…need Lance and/or Monroe

    • meep

but now lakers are making deals good ones i may say and not wasting their time on melo

      • NYLakerJ

Yes…like the flexibility – and contracts…just need to keep adding…plus, like or not rest of league – Kobe will be back with a vengeance! GO Lakers!

        • meep

          kobe is hungry

          • NYLakerJ

Hungry and healthy…Lakers get back a top 5 talent…not bad.

What time does the summer league game start ? Is it on TWC?

    • cyborgspider

      Yes, TWC. It’s on now.

  • Mitch Wheels

It be nice if Lakers Nation decided to focus more on advanced stats and true value of a player instead of stats like PPG and other outdated ones. We seem pretty behind in that aspect

  • apeknows

GREAT! I was starting to think they’d also let him pass. With Meeks and Farmar gone, lets hunt for Pau & Thomas!!

    • meep

lakers have 4 PGS where would thomas fit

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Bingo. We’ve already got Nash, Marshall, Lin and Clarkson. Unless we make some trades, I think we’re good at the point.

        • VillainKing™

buddy I hope the Lakers will get rid of Marshall he is so useless..

      • apeknows

I’d trade Clarkson and finish Nash’s contract & stay with Lin as backup to Thomas. I believe LAL hasn’t signed neither of the rookies’ contracts, right?

        • meep

lakers wouldnt have got the pick if they didnt like clarkson.

        • meep

no but why would you want two PG one who would cost 8 mill and thomas who might cost 6+

        • Al Haldie

They just paid 1.8 mil for him why trade – he will be a starter in a couple yrs,,

  • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Good move for the Lakers bench. I’d like to see us get Bazemore, Kelly and Hill back. Then, let’s bring in that wing defender (Ariza/Deng) or two way budding star (Lance Stephenson). Hell, if we can get both I’d be ecstatic.

    • vdogg

      bazemore is a must!

  • DKWTTY

    Jordan Hill is back too!!

Fuck yeah! We got HEART back: Swaggy AND Jordan Hill. Ka-ching!

      • Andy L

That’s righ, this is me posting a non-sarcastic happy post. ;-)

  • Tune

This is fantastic news, this is beyond a deal for Swaggy P. If we can just sign Lance now I think we’ll be good. Well, the Pau side is questionable.

  • wangkon936

No, no, no! Shoots too much, doesn’t play D, ball hog, stifles your team’s offensive flow. No, no, no! I don’t like this at all.

The only silver lining I see is that he’s in a contract that’s not too long and cheap. We can trade him for a better asset!

  • meep

    hell yea hill back

  • Spade

4 years is a little long but whatever

  • meep

9 mill a year but hill worth it

  • WAYNER

This rebuilding shit wasn’t what i was expecting i hope we make some serious trades in the next 24 hrs and i hope we hire byron scott i’m going to bed, i never really cared for the lil chinese boy but i love fried rice but that Linasanity shit always irritated the hell out of me, Nick young is being payed way to much why not get Isiaha Thomas, Lance Stevenson, Greg monroe, Luol Deng, Bledsoe, my day is ending so badly.

  • Mitch Wheels

The dollar amount is fine but the term is terrible

  • meep

lin, young and now hill man lakers are getting guys left and right

Just bad enough to get our pick back from Phoenix.

        • kookiebuger

Plus the Rockets pick at 25ish in next years draft.

      • ColeWorldNoBlanket

        suck a dick troll

  • meep

8 mill for lin, 5 mill for young and 9 mill for hill lol. lakers are spending

  • meep

for that much hill starting but is it at PF or center

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

It’ll be Randle at PF, and Hill at center.

  • OG RiceBone

Just waiting on the Randle signing…

  • Lakers4Life

Too much money for Hill, but I like the Young deal. What a sad sad day for the Lakers with LeBron not joining us. And if we get Lin who’s totally overrated, say bye to Melo as well. Expect Pau to leave too with us signing Hill.
Don’t expect any championships for Kobe during his 2 year contract, unfortunately. Th e Lakers FO is a joke.

    • DOC4DaLakeshow

They signed hill because pau rejected the offers….maybe getting paid less in another city feels better for his pride…if he wants to go to the spurs make 5 mil and smell pops breath then so be it…they got bigs there already and he will spend plenty of time on the bandwagon bench …my guess is chicago but they will quickly see how soft he is…hope we can s/t for him

  • Ry3

    YAHOOOOOO!!!!

  • swaggy j

He should start if we cant get a better sf.

  • LegendInMyMind

    Ugh, he’s so damn irritating…

  • Daniel

I just don’t get it. How many guards will the lakers have? Marshall, Nash, Lin, Young, Kobe, the new guy, Jordan something, it looks like someone will be traded or dropped. Looks to me that Nash is a goner. Or sign and trade a few of them.

    • Marcus Franco

Marshal isn’t guaranteed and Young play SF easily as a bench. Nash we should kill him.

      • Andy L

Killing Nash? Seems a tad bit harsh… :-D But that brings the question: Can you kill a living corpse?

        • Marcus Franco

hahaha very good… Nash should do us a favor and retire, it’s ridiculous for him, for his legacy.

    • DOC4DaLakeshow

Marshall looked horrible turning the ball over like crazy….hes cheap but just not a good player at all

  • daniel

We still need a big body at center, who is available? Gasol will not sign with the lakers, and he can’t bag anybody, so who?

  • Jay Papi Chambers

jordan clarkson is looking pretty good rite now

  • quickster007

First, they overpaid Kobe and now Jordan Hill and Nick Young. Jordan Hill is making 9 millions a season and Nick Young over 5 millions a season.. The stupidity of the Front Office is going to cost them not be able to compete. Whose next? give Robert Sacre 7 millions a season. It’s really funny go after Pau and Deng? Yah! with what money. No playoff this season and next season. The great news the overpaid players will be off the books after 2016. I just hope the Front Office don’t screw that up. Let’s see the starting lineup would be Jordan Hill at center, Julius Randle at PF(if the lakers have enough money to sign him), Kobe Bryant at SF, Swaggy P at SG, Jeremy Lin at point guard. This lineup is good enough at the 10 spot in the West. No playoff again. Another early exit for the Lakers. The back court when you look at it. Nobody plays defense. Damn, it seems like Dantoni is still coaching the team. Oh yeah, Kobe and Jordan Hill get hurt during the season and the team will really suck. The good news I want to hear is Steve Nash is traded.

    • DOC4DaLakeshow

Swaggy is worth 5 mil…the market is bloated which is why jodie meeks got over 6….they need swaggy in case kobe goes down again!!

  • Sagar

now sign isiah thomas and lance stephenson…..then trade randle, lin and first round pick from rocket for love…re-sign gasol…

    • Bruce

we ain’t got the dough to do that man, do the math.
      Cap space is $63 mil
      $23.5=Kobe
      $9=Nash
      $3=Randle
      $8.6=Lin
      $5=Swaggy
      $9=J Hill
      $1=Sacre
      =$59 MIL
so you have $4 mil to sign the rest of the roster, all the Lakers have
left is the Pau Gasol sign and trade and the Bi-year.
Let’s just be patient and watch the Lakers go through another year or two of mediocrity and wait for 2016 when everybody coming off the books except for Randle and Swaggy P and reload, potentially luring K Durant.

      • Sagar

love earning $14.6…so lakers can try a trade,,houston first round+lakers future first round+lin+randle+steve blake trade exception….=8.6+3+2.8= 14.4…….very much possible….atleast ;lakers can try

        • Bruce

Thomas already signed with Phoenix, Lakers already used it’s amnesty on Metta World Peace

          • Sagar

yeep…..now lakers have only one option….next year they are of the hook from nash, lin and hill(next year team option)…so they can go for kevin love…or lemarcus aldridge….and in 2016….they are free from kobe contract..so go all out for kevin durant and batum…mean while this year lakers should try send gasol to bulls via S/T..to get 2 first rounder and boozer…(sacremento kings top 10 protected and bulls )..or boozer and Doug McDermott

          • Bruce

Yes, sign and trade Gasol to Chicago for Boozer

          • Sagar

yes now lakers have some option…next year lin, nash, hill(team option)..will be out..so go for love or aldridge)..and then 2016 after kobe contract end..fo for durant..mean while this year lakers should S/T gasol to bulls..for boozer and 2 first rounder(included sacremento top 10 protected) or boozer and Doug Mcdermott

      • DOC4DaLakeshow

Durant aint coming here…these guys want a stacked roster…james went “home” cause the team has 3 others first rounders on the team…i dont see a big player coming here without other assets in place
