Assessing the Lakers’ Off-Season

The goal for every team is to win not only one championship, but multiple championships.  The Lakers franchise has won 16 titles, and the previous 7 have come in groups of 2, 3 and 2.

June 17, 2010 - Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES - epa02208487 Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant celebrates after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics 83-79 to win their 16th NBA Championship at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California, USA 17 June 2010.

The championship teams of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 were the most recent repeat in the teams’ history; both groups were very similar, expect for one aspect.  The Lakers switched forward Trevor Ariza for Ron Artest.

With Artest the Lakers brought in more of a defensive style of play, but lost a little bit of offensive explosiveness with Ariza gone. All in all, the swap was a success as the Lakers won a title.

It is quite rare that a championship team makes major moves in an off-season. Most teams that repeat or three-peat stick with the same roster, with the exception of one or two players, throughout their title run.

However, the 2010 off season is much different, the Lakers have a much different (or should I say better) roster than last season.  So let’s dive into the Laker world and see how the teamed changed thus far.
