Andrew Bynum’s Most Memorable Lakers Moments, Pt. II

By | August 22, 2012|

4. Bynum dunks on Kevin Garnett (1/31/10)

The phrase “pick on someone your own size” was invented for guys like Kevin Garnett. YouTube is filled with clips of Garnett bullying the likes of José Calderon, Jerryd Bayless, and Marco Belinelli but rarely has he stepped to a non-European 7-footer. So it’s always great to see when guys like LaMarcus Aldridge or Lamar Odom give it right back. Considering Garnett’s behavior in the closing minutes of the Celtics Game 6 clincher against the Lakers in 2008, it was great to see Bynum — who missed that series due to injury — humble Garnett when he dunked on him. The Lakers would go on to beat Garnett and the Celtics in the NBA Finals five months later.

I know there isn’t any real video of it, but the day Bynum won me over was the 2010 Celtics series. Dude re-aggrevated his knee during the playoffs but did everything he could to play against the Celtics, from using injections to having treatments every day just so that the Lakers could keep OR maintain the status quo in that series. For me, no matter what Bynum did for the rest of his career, his resilience and heart in that series made me a big fan of his.

So true. I should have included something about his performance in that series. I was honestly surprised by the comments this got on LakersNation’s Facebook page. I’m disappointed that so many people want to forget he ever played for the Lakers.

Andrew had some amazing moments as a Laker. He was only 17 when he was drafted, and he was coming into a difficult situation to say the least. I think overall he handled himself well. He’s never said a bad thing about the Lakers organization, so I think we, as the fans, should cheer him on in Philly and hope that he dunks on LeBron and the Heat. Also, I hope he punks Kevin Garnett every chance he gets. It’s kinda weird that only Kobe, Pau, and Metta are the only guys left from the championship teams. I find that sad.

      Well-said.
