Andrew Bynum’s Most Memorable Lakers Moments, Pt. II

By | August 22, 2012|

This is Pt. II of my list of top-10 memories of Andrew Bynum’s time with the Lakers. If you missed Pt. I, click here.

Counting down from five-to-one:

5. The time he grabbed 30 rebounds against Tim Duncan and the Spurs (4/11/12)

One of three memories on the list from this past season. Bynum became the first Laker to grab 30 rebounds in a game since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it in 1978. The Spurs as a team had 33 rebounds. Kobe missed the game with a shin injury. It was like watching the NBA’s version of Hungry, Hungry, Hippo. As incredible as it was, the game might have done more for San Antonio. It would be the last they’d lose between April 12 and May 31 — a stretch of 20 straight wins. But that shouldn’t take anything away from Bynum’s amazing night or this hilarious postgame interview featuring another accidental Bynum curse:

I know there isn’t any real video of it, but the day Bynum won me over was the 2010 Celtics series. Dude re-aggrevated his knee during the playoffs but did everything he could to play against the Celtics, from using injections to having treatments every day just so that the Lakers could keep OR maintain the status quo in that series. For me, no matter what Bynum did for the rest of his career, his resilience and heart in that series made me a big fan of his.

So true. I should have included something about his performance in that series. I was honestly surprised by the comments this got on LakersNation’s Facebook page. I’m disappointed that so many people want to forget he ever played for the Lakers.

Andrew had some amazing moments as a Laker. He was only 17 when he was drafted, and he was coming into a difficult situation to say the least. I think overall he handled himself well. He’s never said a bad thing about the Lakers organization, so I think we, as the fans, should cheer him on in Philly and hope that he dunks on LeBron and the Heat. Also, I hope he punks Kevin Garnett every chance he gets. It’s kinda weird that only Kobe, Pau, and Metta are the only guys left from the championship teams. I find that sad.

      Well-said.
