2014 NBA Draft: Lakers To Workout Potential Lottery Selections On June 4

UPDATE: Add another player to the major group workout as Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis will be joining the fray according to Cowbell Kingdom’s Jonathan Santiago:

With the seventh pick in the NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers will have a number of options on who to select when their time arises. The team was already set to workout Indiana forward Noah Vonleh and Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart on June 4, but now it looks as if the Lakers will be bringing in even more players on that day.

Teams like to see players work out against each other, and according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, the Lakers are looking to bring in a number of lottery prospects on June 4:

If the Lakers are able to bring in all six of those players it will undoubtedly be one of the more star-powered workouts of this draft process.

All of those prospects are expected to be lottery selections with the possible exception of UCLA’s Zach LaVine, and he is rising up draft boards rapidly. Last week, he and Gordon impressed in a workout and both spoke about the possibility of becoming a Laker.

Vonleh has been linked to the Lakers since the lottery took place as the team is supposedly very interested in him, while Smart would fit in as the point guard of the future.

Nik Stauskas is a combo guard who is an excellent shooter and led Michigan to the Elite 8 this past season. Doug McDermott is one of the best scorers in college basketball history, but may struggle to find a position at the next level.

Should make for good competition between the players.

    • Manual

Does Dante Exum really get in fights at clubs?Did Exum call Magic Johnson a no good has been with aids?Wow this is some rumors i heard.SMH

  • Marcos

McDermott,Gordon pick one of these guys pretty please.

  • Harrison

Out of the players coming to the Lakers workout June 4 this is the order i rank the players.

    1.Noah Vonleh
    2.Doug McDermott
    3.Nick Stauskas
    4.Marcus Smart

If Aaron Gordon comes in he is number 2 on my list.Lavine would be #3 on my list.

    • borsalino12

I like your list with the mentioning of Aaron Gordon as # 2 choice. So it should read like this:
      1. Noah Vonleh
      2. Aaron Gordon
      3.Dough McDermott
      4. Dario Saric
We don’t need to draft a point guard, unless his name is Dante Exum, but that is very, very unlikely. We have to sign UFA Kyle Lowry and use our pic to draft a front-court help. That is why, I like my list, without that hooligan Marcus Smart. He is not a player for organization like Los Angeles Lakers.

      • VillainKing

        Fuck you borsalino12!!!!

        • Chrmngblly

Everybody porks you, VK. You are probably diseased by now—or your mother is. What kind of brain makes comments like yours? I agree with Borsalino12 except I prefer Gordon over Vonley because of athleticism and versatility. I still hope for Love and if that miracle ever happened, there would be no place for Vonleh to play.

          • VillainKing

Fuck You again Chrmngllby..I love to fuck your mother always next time when I fuck her it will happen in front of your eyes..hehehhe..

          • Chrmngblly

Since she is dead, she may welcome your action. But as one of the many men who could actually be your father, I want you to smarten up, get your GED and start dating girls for a change.

          • VillainKing

I fuck her in the hell!!!!hehehhe

          • Chrmngblly

            Start dating women, VallianKling…

          • VillainKing

I have so many women and one of them is your whore mother..

          • Chrmngblly

if you did you wouldn’t be here bullshitting me on a Friday night….

          • VillainKing

because your whore mother told me that he wants me to bullshitting you on this Friday..heheheh

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Trade the pick for Kyre Irving.. add two solid vets… and we are set for the season… get Hollins as coach…

Lineup: Irving – Kobe – Ariza – Hill – Gortat
Bench: Nash – Farmar – Bazemore – Kelly – Sacre

      Let’s go Lakers!!!!

      • purplerain53

Not a bad idea bro. You have only to convince Cavs management to do this deal and we are set, as you said.
Your lineup is really good, with only one exception.Ariza did not play well in the playoffs and I took back my vote for him. L.Deng is too old and too expensive. That is why, Rudy Gay is the best option for us for a SF.
Bench: Farmar, Meeks, Young, Kelly and Yusuf Nurkic from Bosnia as a pic # 36.Sacre and Marshall has to be traded together for a box of See’s candy.

  • Tom

Damn Marcus Smart sucks why even invite him for a workout. He is not even projected in the top 10 on some draft boards.McDermott is garbage as a defender.Noah Vonleh is a project yes worth a top 5 pick.Stauskas is just a good shooter with not much else to offer. This is a terrible workout setup.Noah Vonleh will be gone by the time we pick at #7.Pass on the rest of the jokers.

    • Chrmngblly

I think Gordon is worth it as a freak athlete and good defender. His 3-ball is better than Smart’s.

      • purplerain53

If Mitch decides to keep the pic, Aaron Gordon is the best option for us, because he is a PF playing at 3 and with his athleticism will dominate over most of his opponents. I agree with you on this.

        • Chrmngblly

Cool. What ideas do you have on a center and do you think Marshall is special enough to wait for him to develop as a pg?

  • cyborgspider

Can Kobe join too? He’d be great to throw in there and teach the kids a lesson, and no doubt he’ll be able to tell the real players from the also-rans. Some valuable insight there.

Kinda like Michael Cooper went through with Kobe when Mr. Bryant was just starting out…

    • Malcolm

Ya i wanna see Kobe take it to a big mouth trash talker like Marcus Smart and if Smart can stop Kobe 5 times in a row we draft him lol.Now move Marcus on Kobe and if Marcus Smart can score on Kobe 5 times in a row we draft him lol. Then put Doug McDermott up against Kobe and if he can score on Kobe and hold his own maybe we take him seriously.

If he can stop Kobe 10 times in a row his defensive scrutiny was unfair and we must consider him.Noah Vonleh would do well against Kobe huge size advantage and he is a excellent pick and pop player,he shoots good.He is a shooter.

Nick Stauskas is decent but Kobe would destroy him.Only players that stand a chance are Noah Vonleh and Marcus Smart.I like Marcus Smart the most in this draft he has the fire in his belly to do great in the NBA.Plays with a chip on his shoulder,he has a lot to prove the haters.

      • borsalino12

That fire in his belly will burn him out in the NBA. He may possess some defensive skills, but that is very much all. The guy is cu-cu. He is the new Ron Artest of the league. Look at his face and you will see it. He is not a player for our team. The other one with mental problems is Lance Stephenson from Indiana. We don’t need that kind of cancers in our roster.Pass on him and look forward to anyone of A.Gordon, N.Vonleh and D.Saric.

        • purplerain53

That is 100% true and many Lakers fans are not taking it to consideration. We don’t need another MWP.

  • Landon

I like Marcus Smart the most out the group coming in on June 4.Things i do like about Marcus is his strength and length.Great instincts on defense.Willing to dive on the floor for a loose ball. His defense creates offense in transition fast break points.Good finisher at the rim and good at pull up mid range jumpers.

Draws a ton of fouls by going to the rack hard.Great post up ability.Yes he is a very good passer and unselfish.Decent free throw shooter.Excellent rebounder for a guard.Has lots of passion for the game of basketball. He is very coachable.

He must work on his three point shot Must learn how to play with Kobe Bryant.Needs to say i am not going to do stupid stuff like pushing a fan for no good reason.Control aggression and temper.Act more responsible and represent the Lakers brand.Yes Lakers should draft Marcus Smart.

Now the other guys coming no disrespect to them but i only like Marcus Smart.

    • K-Raww88

I love Smart, would have preferred Exum for length but Exum could be a bust. Smart is going to be solid

  • Kenneth

Yup Marcus Smart all the way.Future is now with Marcus Smart.Future All Star.LAL

    • borsalino12

Nope. Not a good choice. No NBA team has future with this guy. No one.

      • Turnup

Ok we get it, you hate him.

        • purplerain53

Hate! It is too strong of a word. I don’t even know this guy personally, so how can I hate him. My point is that he is ghetto-guy. In the whole history of the Los Angeles Lakers, we have had only two ghetto-guys – Dennis Rodman and Ron Artest. The Lakers are an elite organization and we don’t tolerate this kind of individuals. They may be good for most of the other NBA teams, but not for us.We have always selected classy guys and Marcus Smart is not one of them.

        • purplerain53

and if you are wondering why I am responding to you with different nick, it is because of that idiot under me. I have changed it

      • VillainKing

        Fuck You again borsalino12!!!

        • Chrmngblly

Your mother must be pretty low for you to bash other fans like you do, VillianKing. She must have given you a venereal disease.

          • VillainKing

Fuck you Chrmngblly..You didn’t knew that I fuck your mother..so Fuck up..

          • Chrmngblly

You have a dirty mouth, VillainKling. As someone who stands a better chance than average of actually being your father, I may have to come over there and wash your mouth out with soap. I want you to start behaving like a gentleman.

          • VillainKing

Fuck you I will not behave on you Chrmngblly so FUCK YOU!!!I’m not gentleman I’m a VILLAIN MAN!!!!

          • Chrmngblly

You could be my son, VillianKling I should have left you in that garbage bag your mom put you in after you were born in the back seat of my Chevy. Come to think of it, I think you were conceived in the back seat of my Chevy, too. Who knows? Your momma was a “questionable” woman in those days. Let’s just say we all chipped in $10 bucks each…

          • VillainKing

I’m not interested in being your son because I will kill you Chrmngblly and also i will fuck your daughter…hehehehe!!

          • Chrmngblly

you are just the afterbirth of a true human, VillianKling

          • VillainKing

No I’m not, but your the after birth of true animal, Chrmngblly

          • Harley Knoxx

No you’re a dipshit high school drop out soon to be on welfare man. You will be a burden on tax payers across America . Yes America that is the name of the country we live in. • harley Knoxx

Wow great come back did you learn that from your little brother. I thought you had more to offer but you’re weak. Just stick to writing on the bathroom walls of the county juvenile detention center. FYI that’s where little boy go to jail. que come back sex with my mom and pleasure myself. boring!

          • VillainKing

hahahah…don’t worry I already fuck your mother next is your girlfriend brother harley then your sister and your grandmother…

          • VillainKing

I will do that in front of your eyes so that you can see how great I am,,hhehehe

          • VillainKing

and also your the weakest person here harley knoxx…Knoxx OUT!!!!!HEHEHEHEHEH

  • Ollie Taylor

Want the lakers to draft Gordon badly but if Vonleh is on the board when we pick you have to take him

    • Chrmngblly

That’s tough. Does that mean you are giving up on Love?

      • Badazztj12

yes tried of no defense. Lakers need defense, not just excitement but defense is what excites me

        • Chrmngblly

          We agree.

      • Ollie Taylor

I think all us fans know at this time we haven’t got enough for love this year… maybe next but we need defence that’s why Marcus smart would be good as well its between smart , gordon , vonleh

        • Chrmngblly

Yeah. If we really dream of Love, it is between Gordon and Smart I am always suspicious of guys like Smart and Randle that “bull” their way around college ball because too many times they will get crushed when they play with the real big boys in the NBA.

I wish we could pick up Hibbert or Asik or someone without having to trade a non-existent asset for them. Even Tyson Chandler would be good.

  • Blayke

Stauskas is gonna be good great shooter and can drive. Just watch.

  • K-Raww88

I dislike McDermott for defensive reasons, don’t fancy Stauskas. Would prefer Aaron Gordon as a SF so much more. I wish Exum or Embiid would fall in our hands and healthy too

  • LittleJj

Who cares? The Lakers are complete toast. Wake up and smell the retarded owner!

    • Chrmngblly

Jim Buss is not retarded—he’s a pothead. He just seems retarded.

      • Gregory Gaylen

that’s so damn funny… mostly because it’s probably true!

      • Chrmngblly

The Buss family is really straining credulity with all their “plans”. It is almost like President Nixon’s “plan” to end the Vietnam war during that year’s election. Dr. Buss had a plan, Jim Buss and Mitch have a plan. Who doesn’t have a plan?
Dr. Buss’ plan was about how his spoiled children and relatives could have jobs forever that they could never ear in a million years–this is called nepotism, a practice frowned on by everyone in business and prohibited by most companies because it produces a toxic work environment and lower performance across the board.
As far as Jim and Mitch’s plan, what is it? There are only so many ways to build a team when you have no draft picks and no tradable assets. The CBA makes it all but certain that a team will have to overpay for a FA–except for in a case like with D12 where the FA is fleeing a dysfunctional franchise. The allure of playing in Hollywood only worked so well for the Clippers over many years.
Tell us the “plan”, just generically.

  • LittleJJ

Anyone but Randle . He ‘s nothing.

  • purplerain53

My ideas is to trade our pic # 7 to Phoenix for their pics # 14 and 27 and to draft with the first one Louisiana/Lafayette PG Elfrid Payton, who is going to be a steal and future NBA All-Star. then, with the other pic we can select Glen Robinson III and start him at 3. That is a lot better, than drafting Vonleh, Gordon, McDermot or Stauskas.

    • SD

I agree. I’ve been suggesting this for quite a while. Even if we maybe traded that pick for a player/players and pick…say Reggie Jackson/Lamb and OKC’s 21st pick.

I’d personally be going after Zach Lavine + James Young (who could start at SF). Lavine needs a few years 2-3. By the time Kobe puts up the sneaks, he’d be ready to step in as starting SG. I don’t see a PG that’s going to be elite in this draft but it’s full of SG/SF types who could be good players…all-stars. Maybe you take Young/Payne.

      • Chrmngblly

The trouble is this stuff only looks smart a year later. I think we need a big worse than anything. We need Embiid.

  • RUDY T.

If Marcus Smart kills it in the work out and has a once in a lifetime performance then you draft him right away no doubt. When Derrick Rose worked out for the Bulls it was one of the best rookie workouts ever. When Damian Lillard did a pre draft workout for the Trailblazers it was one of the best workouts ever. Both workouts assured the players would get drafted by the team they did it for.Marcus Smart must have a amazing workout for the Lakers in order to draft him.

    • Chrmngblly

It would have to be really, really amazing.

  • VillainKing

Marcus Smart all the way for the Lakers 7th pick in NBA draft 2014..

    • Chrmngblly

We don’t need a point guard with “issues” and no social skills—but I see why you like him. You know he can’t shoot the 3-ball, right?

      • vdogg

on the contrary.. his shot was looking smooth in his first workout for GMs.

        • Chrmngblly

He only shot the 3 at about 30% even at college distance. Go look it up. I imagine the guy looks gorgeous and smooth, though…:-)

          • VillainKing

Smart cannot shot 3-ball watch his video vs memphis and see how this guy shoot the 3-ball and FUCK YOU Chrmngblly!!!

          • Chrmngblly

What is wrong with you? Kobe went entire games throwing up bricks and looked good doing it. How smooth your stroke is has nothing to do with your eye. Go read his numbers for yourself. You suck d*ck, VillianKling. No offense, d*ck suckers.

          • VillainKing

Fuck you Chrmngblly!!!your the dick sucker here..your good as your mother in sucking dick!!!

          • Chrmngblly

With suck a small d*ck, how would you know? Your just a needle-d*ck punk.

People sit here and bag on Smart for mental issues, social skills, etc. The dude is intense, he has a motor, he has a mouth. Remind you of anyone else who was young, athletic, intense and a bit “much”? Someone wearing #24 for the Lakers.

He had that one incident with a fan who is known for crossing the line. Nothing I’d heard of before, nothing since. I’ve read he was the leader of that team, was a potential #1 pick a year ago.

This is a PG league. CP3, Irving, Rondo, the list goes on. I’d love to see someone who can defend these guys and I think Smart is the guy. His jumper can improve, but shooting seems to be one of the easier things to work on. Look at Blake Griffin, for example.

Sign Hollins, draft Smart, sign Deng and some role guys, and we’re in better shape this season. Then next season, sign Love, and Asik, and we’re looking pretty. Plenty of firepower, plenty of defense.

    • Chrmngblly

Smart’s OK. I just don’t like VillianKling telling other fans “fuck you”. It’s low class. Hollins may be the best choice. I prefer to draft Gordon and just go buy Lowrey, based on athleticism and versatility. There is a reason Smart has fallen this far down in the draft, you know.

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

I’m not worried about VK. Also, players drop in drafts all the time from one year to the next. Players like Wiggins, Embiid, Exum and Parker weren’t available last year, and definitely have come on strong.

I just feel if we draft a PF that basically says we’re not going after Love. Love isn’t a once-in-a-lifetime player, but he definitely is a great offensive PF. Any PF we draft would basically be thrown into the starting line up. Smart would have the luxury of playing behind Nash, while still getting quality minutes off the bench.

        • Harley Knoxx

Don’t worry about the Villain Queer he just needs some man love. You know his street corner name is captain Jack-Off swallows. That boy must have some talent. #villainqueerflavor.

    • Chrmngblly

Also, Evan, I would like to know how to get Love and Asik. We have nothing to trade for Asik.

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

“Then next season sign Love and Asik.”

They are both free agents in 2015.

  • Boris

My definite must have player in this draft is Marcus Smart and the reason is he has great length and powerful strength. He also is a great driver to the hole and a superb finisher even with contact.Good pull up jumper.Needs to work on a floater.Has a decent step back jumper. He is great on defense a shutdown defensive player.Has improving Point Guard skills.Must improve his 3 point shot. Also his attitude towards winning is great.Top choice for me in this draft.

  • Howard

Biggest ups and downs to some prospects.

Noah Vonleh Is he Chris Bosh clone. What happens when he gets roughed up?
Marcus Smart Is he really another Dwayne Wade? Will he get in off court trouble?
Julius Randle Is he going to be another Zach Randolph? Is he just a big fat bust?
Aaron Gordon Is he another Blake Griffin? Is he just some NBA role player?

    • SD

Bosh also averaged 22 and 10 …was an allstar when he was the #1 guy. not bad. I think most guys would take that as a big. just a thought. your other points…super valid. Gordon is 6’9 at his best…undersized if he plays PF…not skilled enough for SF. Randle…I think he’s more of Paul Millsap than Randolph. I think he’s legit. His ability to rebound will translate…it always does from college to NBA. His grit will translate too. Smart…is he a floor general? Good at getting to the basket and very good defender. Not polished offensively. Wade wasn’t a good 3 pt shooter but he’s always had a sweet jumper and great pace. Always a great playmaker. Smart in some ways reminds me of Eric Bledsoe but not THAT kind of athlete.

  • Phil

Nick Stauskas is a joke.Doug McDermott is trash. Why invite them?Jim Buss era!

  • Phil

I love Marcus Smart and i think the Lakers should pick him.He is the most NBA ready guard in this draft.Tough minded guy with a defensive reputation. He has NBA body and a game to match his wonderful Greek god body.

Now on the other end Noah Vonleh he is just a kid looking to be a NBA player. He has no real shot at being a Laker because someone will pick Noah in the top 6.My favorite player is Smart and my money is on Smart being a Laker.

  • Phil

Marcus Smart reminds me of Dwayne Wade and Russell Westbrook all in one.

  • hyu

Marcus Smart is coming to my Lakers.

  • M T

Kings are shopping their 8th pick for vets. Sign and trad Pau, Nick, 2016 swap option, 2016 2nd, and maybe even trade Marshall to a 3rd team for that 8th pick. Draft Gordon and Vonleh. Re-sign **HILL** and Jodie. Sign Lowry and Lance. Wait for for 2015 to get Love for free. This would be a title team with zero weaknesses. Lowry, Kobe, Gordon, Hill, Vonleh. Jodie, Lance, Love.
