10 Worst Lakers of All Time

Written by on 03/24/2010 in Editorials - 71 Comments

Being the NBA’s “Greatest Franchise of All-time” doesn’t come without its hiccups.

With the Lakers hanging up 30 conference and 15 championship banners, you’d think its been nothing but sunshine and daisies down Figueroa. Right?

Wrong.

There has been many “Best Lakers of All Time” lists. But very few featuring the “Worst Lakers”.

After getting the opinion from quite a few Lakers fans, here’s the list for the 10 worst Lakers of all time.

10. Elden Cambpell (1990-1999)

Despite being the Lakers’ leading scorer of the 90′s with 6,111 points, he wasn’t a fan favorite. But to his defense, he never was meant to be a huge star. And he did his part when it came to defense, and was good rebounder and shot blocker. But his demeanor wasn’t strong enough. He didn’t seem to care as much as the other Lakers during his time.

this is so not fair to have sasha on the honorable mention list, he is good and he is hot so he should be deleted from this.
    thank you.

Luke Walton has some of the best adjusted plus minus stats in lakers history according to Wayne Winston. He does not deserve any consideration for the list of worst lakers at all.

I remember Travis Knight fouled out in 5 minutes of play once. 6 fouls in 5 minutes. Solid.

Were you born in the 90′s by any chance? This list sucks. Benoit Benjamin, Chuck Nevitt, Mike Smrek, and the Laker who made me most ashamed to love the purple and gold…Jack Haley!!! He actually started some games the year after Magic first retired and Vlade had back surgery. I truly thought I was being punished by God.

This was truly a 90′s-00′s list. Under achievers list continued: What about #1 draft pick Earl Jones, Brian Cook, Larry Spriggs, Earl Tatum, Anthony Peeler, Kareem Rush, Isaiah Rider, Nick Van Exel, oft injured Chris Mihm, and put Tracy Murray way ahead of an honorable mention Luke Walton. Luke should not be anywhere near this list.

    • Brian Coffman

Jerry West said multiple times publicly that they did NOT want to move Anthony Peeler, but that it was necessary to clear enough cap room to sign Shaq. Shaq said, had he known they were going to have to move AP, he would have signed for less $, to keep him in a Laker uniform. You must know something about basketball that Jerry West and Shaq don’t. But that’s why you’re in the NBA Hall of Fame. Oh, you’re not? Go figure.

smush parker? he was good, inconsistent or not. his clutch steal in game 6 against phoenix keeps him out of this list imo. at least he came from for us lakers. I would replace his spot with Chris Mihm.

I wasn’t going to leave a comment until I saw Dennis Rodman’s name. His behavior on all of his teams is unacceptable but he was a very good defensive player. The comment “He did have over 11 rebounds a game, though” says it all.

Hell, what about The J.R’s??? Both ried and Rider. And also Malone and Payton. Both were wack in L.A….never learned the triangle

  • Thenolanater

Are you kidding me here? Elden Campbell not a fan favorite, you got to be joking. That guy was a solid defense big man a great player a player I was a fan of. Seeing him and Eddie Jones work together on the same page was great. Man, who the heck runs this sites if they posted it and think that of Elden then there just a banwagoner from time to time and not a diehard fan like I am.
I also had the honor to meet Elden Cambell once not only is he a great role player, I didn’t say star, but he is a good role player, not only that he’s a stand up guy took the time to meet fans like he knew why he had his job cause of the fans. No one told him who to meet with then he just saw fans and shook their hand made their day.
Elden was one of my favorite player the not favorite but one of, for 2 reasons 1) he’s a unselfish great role player 2) he a great person so humble and thankful to his fans – dude was a fan favorite whoever posted the topic just off the banwagon it’s not about the name on the back it’s about the name on the front if they got a Laker jersey on then there a Laker. Diehard true fans don’t hate on there on team. If you hate make it clear people know you jumped on the bandwagon either stay on support your team or jump off and go hate on another team you’ll claim your a fan of.
sorry to me it’s not about the player it’s this topic this is non sense to have a topic like this and claim to be a fan your kidding yourself.

  • HI loves LA

where can i get a Rodman jersey?

What I want to know is why Sasha was mentioned. I rather liked him

    • D_bone911

When he’s sign a 3 yr, 5 mill, he never stepped up. Sasha should be mention on the list.

walton is the worst of all time, he’s been in the league how long? and hasn’t gotten any better. every time he comes in he manages to screw something up

    • Tom Campbell

There is a reason Walton has been in the league so long under the best coach ever.  He is a team player.  Not the most talented, but he makes others better.

Honestly do a list of the worst Lakers ever? Most all the names mentioned are Lakers for life, and were key contributors. Although, I agree with the top three, they were still Lakers. Smush, had mental issues with stop him from reaching his potential. But was capable of averaging 15+.

Kwame was a bust, true. But had we had another solid big man, Kwama would’ve did better. But his trade bring Pau, which brought 2 title, so far….Rodman was the worst Laker without question.

But Elden Campbell was a good Laker. Solid contributor. Tyronn Lue, Samie Bowie, Travis Knight, Mark Madsen, I have good memories of them guys…

  • Lake4life

This is about the dumbest thing Lakers Nation has put up.The 10 worst players, are you kidding me?I could see if this site was called Celtics Nation, then call out the worst Lakers. You just dont do this.Bad Karma, bad call!!

    • Iggy Gee

shut up… talmbout some damn karma over players who suck ass.

  • Sbdt12

    kwame brown worst ever

  • Darren Doyle

I thought Brown should have been #1 Rodman really brought life into the Lakers in 1999. I mean the team like the league was coming off a lockout and players were out of shape so Rodman made them entertaining. If Phil Jackson had been there at that time things would have been different.

  • Dkool 71

@ Dandog32- I agree with you, man. Only I’ll replace Nick the Quick with Cedric Ceballos -disappearing to Key West during the 1995 playoffs-ass, or Coach Del Harris letting Kobe in his rookie year shoot 4 airballs against the Pacers.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EBM2X2BYAYQXJP65JWBKTHONCU Fanon

that was against the Jazz in the 1997 playoffs not the Pacers.

  • Dkool 71

Yeah! Kwame Brown use the jump like he had ankle-weights on.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZW43PZKOAV6DFEGLV5LXFLPKMY SuperKing!

Dennis Rodman is no way the worst Laker of all time, He or Campbell shouldn’t even make the list. Now Luke on the other hand should be no less then 3rd. With his over-inflated contract, and horrible jump shot. I would love to trade him but I think the Lakers could only get a bag of Toms potato chips, 4 Reese Pieces (no not 4 bags, just 4 out of a bag), a blown light bulb and a used 14-inch tire with no tread on it, for him. AND IF HE PASSES THE BALL THOUGH HIS LEGS ONE MORE DAMN TIME, I’m going to vomit!!!

  • GSTRADER16

Id say two of them would have to be Kwame Brown and Vlade Divac.Go easy on Luke guys hes a passer not a shooter.

  • Atime31

smh this list was weak luke walton should be in this list for sure as the worst laker of all time becuase he rides the bench for the last 4/5 yrs and even when he was in the starting lineup he was a horrible small forward jus the other night ago he airballed a wide open 15ft jumper. disappointed i actually like u guys articles but this one seems as if little time was put into it

  • Giowho

Luke Walton should have been 1-10 He’s the worst Laker ever. I actually liked every single laker on the List.

  • SarahFig

    Chris Mihm forsure!

  • theperrinshow

WORST LAKER EVER = BRIAN COOK. His omission from this list is EGREGIOUS. I’d take ANYBODY on this list over him, even Luke Walton, who oh yeah btw should also be on this list… Lue & Elden weren’t electrifying but not in the all-time bottom 10!

Of course we got ARIZA(!) for Cook, so it’s hard to curse his name to forcefully…

  • theperrinshow

    BRIANNNNNN COOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cavewynter29

Honestly though… Adam Morrison should be #1, period… He gave props to an opposing team for a free throw for God’s sake!!!
